My Thanksgiving Break
By Chris Bennett

Over my Thanksgiving break I Went to Harrisonburg, VA to stay at my cousins house. I left West Virginia on November 16th at about seven o' clock and made it to my aunts at about eleven thirty. When I got there we had some snacks and went to bed. The next morning when we woke up, we went to the mall and stayed there all day. On the 18th we went to Spotswood High School to lift weights and workout. After playing basketball for a while, we went home and ate dinner. The third day we went to a JMU basketball game. On the 20th my cousin David and I stayed home and played video games and messed around on the computer. The last day I was there, David and I mostly just got ready to leave. When my ride arrived we got mixed up and David left with my ride and I got left behind. It took them about an hour to realize that they left me behind. So, I ended up spending another night with my aunt. Overall I had a lot of fun on my Thanksgiving break.

The BOLT Auction
The BOLT auction in Pipestem was
very successful. The auction itself made
$991. There was an additional $118 made
from the sale of BOLT t-shirts and former
chairman Lisa Kittel's CD. Also, Bill Wilcox,
Executive Director of Adult Education,
presented a $1,000 grant on behalf of the
West Virginia Department of Education. This
brings the total amount raised to $2,109.

BOLT Scholarships
        The applications for the spring
scholarships will be mailed out very soon. They
are mailed to the teachers, so students should
check with Mr. Armentrout or Ms. Woodard to
let them know that you are interested.

My Donation to the BOLT Auction
By Justin Foley

My name is Justin Foley and I am an ABE/GED student. I made a stained glass lamp lighthouse for the BOLT auction at their annual meeting in Pipestem. I was planning to make one anyway and this was a perfect opportunity.
First I had to design it. I had to think of how tall, wide, and how many sides it needed to have a good proportion. Then I start up the computer and went into the CAD Program and made it how I wanted it.
Then I had to think of what color glass I wanted to use and I chose to make it all white with clear windows. I then traced the design on the glass and cut it with a handheld glass cutter. After that I ground all the pieces to make a smooth edge so I could put the foil on the outer edge of the glass.
When I finished all of that all I had to do was solder all the pieces together. It was six sided so I had to make a 120 degree holder (that I made out of cardboard) so I would get the right angle on all of the pieces. I then set two sides in the 120 degree angle, fluxed the area that needed to be soldered then got the heating iron and started putting on the solder. After that was together it just needed the finishing touches. I decided to put black patina on all the solder and I thought, "Why stop there?" so I put a light in it.
